This laser is unlike any other laser in dentistry and improves all aspects of dental treatment. With this laser, most cavities can be treated WITHOUT anesthetic! It is great for kids and allows them to avoid getting the dreaded “shot.” The laser doesn’t produce vibration and makes minimal noise allowing for a more comfortable and efficient patient experience. It produces a more conservative preparation by taking away less healthy tooth structure and creating a better bonding surface. This also reduces sensitivity after fillings are placed.
Additionally the laser allows for minimally invasive soft tissue and periodontal surgeries. It speeds up the process of a root canals and helps ensure a successful outcome. Below are some of the problems and/or procedures in which the Lightwalker laser is used.
Infant and Adult Frenectomies: What the heck is a frenectomy and who needs one? Sometimes the attachment of the lips to the gums (frenums) are too high and can cause the gums to recede in adults or cause spacing between front teeth. A frenectomy is a simple procedure to lower the attachments so the gums stop receding. It typically takes about 10 min to complete the entire procedure. Most patients only report a little sensitivity that usually lasts for a couple days.
Because the “ties” are so much smaller in infants, the procedure takes about 30 seconds, which is good because that’s about all a baby will give us! It is not painful for them. Both Doctors Chelsea and Dave have done tons of these and are very sympathetic to the parents and the babies. Both our boys needed them so we’ve been through it ourselves! Please see the Infant Frenectomy section of our website to learn why a baby might need this procedure.
Treating cold sores and lip bites: These things suck when you get them. If treated with the laser it stimulates healing much more rapidly. Oftentimes, they will resolve in a couple days instead of a couple weeks. The earlier we treat them the better, so give us a call and we can get you in right away.
Aesthetic Procedures: This laser can be used for aesthetic procedures such as wrinkle reduction and increased collagen formation for lips. This is a great natural alternative to Botox and fillers!
Nightlase: Nightlase is a revolutionary procedure that can be used to greatly reduce, and in many cases, eliminate snoring. A full course of Nightlase consists of three separate treatment sessions over a six week period. The final results of the treatment have been shown to last up to a year, and the therapy can be repeated with a minor touch up appointment. NightLase requires no device to be worn during sleep and involves no chemical treatment. It’s a gentle and easy way for your patients to regain a good night’s rest.

Our hygienists and doctors use this laser to assist with gum therapies, in conjunction with basic cleanings and with “deep cleanings”. It helps control the infection in your mouth that causes gum disease and loosens the attachment of tartar to your teeth before we remove it…meaning less scraping. If we notice your gums bleeding then we will probably recommend doing a Diode laser treatment. It works wonders and we have been thrilled with the results.
