New Service: Sedation Dentistry at Crested Butte Dental

We get it—going to the dentist isn’t exactly at the top of anyone’s list of favorite things to do. For some, it’s more than just inconvenient; it can bring up real anxiety, fear, or physical discomfort.

At Crested Butte Dental, our mission has always been to deliver high-quality, personalized care in a way that feels respectful, supportive, and—yes—even comfortable. That’s why we’re so excited to now offer Sedation Dentistry as a regular service, right here in our office.

This means that if fear or discomfort has ever held you back from getting the care you need, you now have a new option—one designed with you in mind.

A Trusted Partner in Care: Dalila Fairchild, CRNA

To provide this service safely and effectively, we’ve partnered with Dalila Fairchild, a board-certified Nurse Anesthetist with over 14 years of experience in anesthesia. Dalila has worked in hospitals, outpatient centers, and rural practices, and currently practices at Gunnison Valley Hospital.

Since moving to Crested Butte in 2021, Dalila has become a valued member of our medical community. She lives in CB South with her husband, son, two dogs, and one very spirited cat. Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, biking, and soaking up all that our mountain home has to offer.

“It’s a privilege to help people feel more comfortable and less afraid during medical and dental procedures. Everyone deserves that.”

How Sedation Works

If you’re interested in sedation for any upcoming procedure—whether it’s a routine filling or more involved treatment—here’s how it works:

  1. Mention it when scheduling your appointment. We’ll take it from there.
  2. You’ll meet with Dalila beforehand to review your health history and answer any questions.
  3. Once medically cleared, we’ll coordinate a treatment time that works for both your dentist and Dalila.
  4. A 50% deposit is required to reserve your sedation appointment; full payment is due 48 business hours before treatment.
  5. Please note: Cancellations within 48 business hours will result in a 25% forfeiture of your deposit.

Sedation Dentistry FAQs

Q: What type of sedation is used?
A: We offer IV conscious sedation—the deepest form of in-office sedation. It allows you to relax fully while staying responsive if needed.

Q: Will I be asleep?
A: Not completely. Most patients feel deeply relaxed and may lightly doze, but you’ll remain conscious and able to follow simple instructions.

Q: Is it safe?
A: Yes. Dalila uses hospital-grade monitoring equipment and stays with you throughout the procedure to ensure your safety.

Q: What kinds of dental procedures qualify for sedation?
A: Almost any! From crowns and fillings to oral surgery and longer appointments—sedation is an option whenever comfort is a priority.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Sedation is billed at $650/hour, in 15-minute increments. Most patients only need 30–60 minutes of sedation, even if the full appointment is longer.
For example: If you’re getting a crown and want sedation for the numbing and drilling portion, you may be sedated for about 30 minutes, even though your full visit may last around 2 hours. You only pay for the time you’re sedated.

Q: How do I prepare and what happens afterward?
A: You’ll receive detailed pre-op instructions, including fasting and medication guidance. After the procedure, a responsible adult will need to drive you home and stay with you as you rest and recover.
