I decided I was going to be a dentist when I was 7 years old because I had amazing experiences both at my dentist’s and my orthodontist’s offices and I wanted to be like them!
As I got a little older, I realized it wasn’t all rainbow rubber bands and treasure chests that made the dentists in my life so great; it was that they were passionate about helping people. After attending the University of Southern California for college I went east to Boston University School of Dental Medicine where I graduated Cum Laude (and met Dave). Once I was in dental school it became clear being a general dentist was what I was meant to do. Connecting with patients is the best part of my job. I’m fortunate that helping a phobic patient work through their fears or giving someone the smile they have dreamed of or simply getting someone out of pain is my job! That does not get old.
Continuing education is extremely important to all of us at Crested Butte Family Dental. We spend hundreds of hours each year individually or as a team learning as much as we can to best serve our patients. Dental school does a decent job of giving you the basics, but continuing education is where you learn the treatments and technology that you can become passionate about. We have the leading technology and have spent numerous hours learning how best to use it to our patients’ advantage. Since joining the Crested Butte Community I have become more passionate about creating an exceptional experience for a special part of our community…the kids! This is why I have pursued an education in orthodontics, learned a ton about sleep disordered breathing in children and learned what makes for a great experience at the dentist for kids! Of course, I will always love serving and connecting with my adult patients as well!
Constantly learning and growing are a huge part of my values and I’m fortunate that dentistry is an ever-evolving profession. I was lucky to have a progressive mentor through dental school and was able to begin my career at his practice in Boulder. That is where I was first introduced to Cerec (same-day crown) technology as well as laser dentistry. I immediately learned as much as I could about Cerec and was asked to join the CerecDoctors.com Mentor group in 2012 and Visiting Faculty in 2016. I also completed the rigorous Arun Garg implant training and have enjoyed bringing a high-tech, digital workflow for implant placement to the office.
My primary goal has always been to improve the patient experience and for me that means listening to patient concerns, educating them on prevention and treatment, and creating an efficient and comfortable appointment. With the Cerec, 3D Xrays, and Laser technology, I am able to make your appointment personalized, comfortable and easy.
More recently, I have become passionate about breathing and sleep and understanding how it is the underlying issue for many health problems. I suffer from moderate sleep apnea and through the Spencer Study Club and ASAP pathways have studied how best to help myself and also my patients.
I am excited to have down roots in the Gunnison Valley community. My first visit to Crested Butte was when I was 15 years old and visiting a friend at Western State College. I immediately felt how special this place is and almost cannot believe that the dream of living here has become a reality. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and attended University of Wisconsin Madison for undergrad. Afterward, I went to Boston University where I graduated Cum Laude from dental school (and met Chelsea). Chelsea and I are so fortunate to raise our children here and serve such a wonderful community of people.
When I was a kid I knew I wanted to be a dentist and serve in the US military and the Army gave me the
opportunity! I went to Arizona State University for undergrad (2009), the Arizona School
of Dentistry and Oral Health (2013) for dental school, and completed a one year Advanced
Education in General Dentistry residency (2014) that equipped me to spend 5 years treating our
Soldiers with the respect and care they deserved.
Dr. Chelsea hired me for my first post-Army job in Denver in 2018, and we have remained
friends since. When my husband, Mike, and I decided to move to the mountains, Drs. Chelsea
and Dave was our first phone call. The conservative treatment philosophy, technology, and
The patient-first attitude of the practice is synonymous with how I practice. I have a passion for the
medical side of dentistry and disease prevention. Since 2018, I have completed over 600 hours
of continuing education to better serve my patients, to include courses in implant placement and
management, orofacial/TMJ pain, cosmetic botox and filler injections, CEREC technology, and
Invisalign.
I am a member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry and the American Academy of
Clear Aligners. I am beyond happy to join Crested Butte Dental and this beautiful community.
We are excited to give back to the community in any way we can and look forward to being
contributing, valuable members of the Crested Butte and Gunnison Valleys.
I have been lucky enough to practice orthodontics for the past 17 years. My wife and I started visiting the Crested Butte and Gunnison area during our daughter’s college career. We fell in love with the area and look forward to making Crested Butte our home. I attended the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN for college then went to Virginia Commonwealth University for Dental School. I graduated Summa Cum Laude then attended the University of Iowa for my masters in orthodontics. I have been board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics since 2006.
I have always stayed up to date on the latest advances in the field of orthodontics. I love working with both children and adults to improve the aesthetics and function of their smiles. Every case is different and I have a passion for making the patient experience easy and providing excellent results. I feel lucky to practice with Dr. Chelsea and Dr. Dave at Crested Butte Dental.
I’m always eager to learn the latest and greatest and new advancements in the dental world. Learning is so much fun, I love it and the opportunities it provides. I feel so privileged to be working in an office where comprehensive dental care and whole body connections are a priority. As a Myofunctional Therapist (restores oral function by addressing the muscles in the head, neck and facial region), I have the knowledge and ability to help people establish proper oral posture and correct swallowing patterns while eliminating negative oral habits that can greatly impact one’s life. This includes the growth and development of facial structures, breathing, allergies, sleep, GI issues, facial and jaw pain, among so many other issues. I have studied under both www.aomtinfo.org and http://www.myomentor.com and will always continue evolving my education so that I can best help others. I’m extremely honored to be working with Drs. Dave and Chelsea Stangl and I’m excited to have both autonomy and support to continue my professional growth.
I’m so fortunate that I planted my roots in the Gunnison valley over 24 years ago. I have seen this valley grow in so many ways and I’m lucky to call Crested Butte my community and home. My husband Rusty and I are thankful that we are able to raise our two children in a place that we cherish and love.
Cracker Barrel and Dollar Tree are my guilty pleasures, our dog Finn is the most entertaining monster, I have a large birthmark on my leg that my parents lovingly named “Freddy Krueger” when I was a small child, and I truly think my body could take in an infinite amount of pizza and brownies.
Hello! I am the Operations Manager for Crested Butte Dental. I have lived in Crested Butte for 26 amazing years! I met my husband here and feel so fortunate to be raising our 2 boys in this incredible community.
I am passionate about making sure patients are getting the best care and experience possible. I love being a part of this highly knowledgeable, caring, and community oriented Crested Butte Dental team. I look forward to seeing you soon!
Hi! I’m Carli and I am the Hygiene Coordinator at Crested Butte Dental. I moved to Crested Butte in 2017 with my husband and two (now three) kids, and we owned and operated Mochas Coffeehouse & Bakery in Gunnison until December 2019. Before that, I worked for Intrawest (now Alterra) in Denver.
I graduated from Metro State in Denver in 2006 with a B.A. in Anthropology and I’m originally from South Dakota. On the weekends, you will find me snowboarding or camping with my family and our dachshund.
Hi! My name is Madeline, I go by Maddy. I am the Treatment Coordinator for Crested Butte Dental. The CB Dental crew is a group of highly professional, hospitable, and comforting individuals – and I am proud to be part of this team!
In my position I am able to meet and care for so many people in the valley, and I take pride in being one of the first and last people they see at their visits. A fun fact about me is I was never allowed sugar cereal as a child, so now I eat Cocoa Puffs every morning!
Originally I’m from Anchorage, Alaska, where I spent my childhood on the ice. I played Division I Women’s Hockey at St. Cloud State University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology. I’ve lived in Crested Butte since 2010 with my husband Scott, our son Beau, and two dogs. We are stoked to be raising our son in this glorious place.
